Biography
Reid is a nationally recognized lawyer for regulatory compliance, enforcement, and transactional matters, with a particular focus on mortgage servicing and collections. He represents mortgage servicers, lenders, debt collectors, consumer finance companies, financial institutions, investment banks, and secondary-market investors.
Reid provides regulatory, enforcement, and transactional advice for clients on a range of issues involving state and federal consumer finance laws. Reid regularly counsels clients on issues regarding the CFPB's Mortgage Servicing Rules, state mortgage servicing laws, federal and state debt collection laws, UDAAP, limited English proficiency, state lending and servicing requirements, Agency (FHA, VA, USDA, GNMA) and GSE program requirements, loss mitigation, foreclosure procedures, advertising, and other business practices. Reid also assists clients with state and federal examination and enforcement matters, including those involving the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the HUD Mortgagee Review Board, state financial services regulators, and state attorneys general.
Reid assists clients with identifying and meeting state and federal licensing and approval requirements, including those related to stock and asset acquisitions. He has extensive experience with the SAFE Act and state licensing laws, and has counseled numerous mortgage companies, servicers, debt collectors, and third-party service providers on those requirements.
Reid frequently prepares multistate regulatory surveys, on a wide range of topics, including residential mortgage lending and servicing requirements, and debt collection laws. He assists clients with tracking and implementing new laws and is active with industry associations in legislative advocacy efforts.
Reid is author of the "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" chapter of Mortgage Finance Regulation Answer Book 2011-2012, published by the Practising Law Institute.

Reid is a frequent speaker at conferences, seminars, and on webinars, covering mortgage servicing, debt collection, UDAAP, examination and enforcement developments, and other regulatory compliance matters. His speaking engagements include conferences held by the Mortgage Bankers Association, the Conference on Consumer Finance Law, and the California Mortgage Bankers Association.
