Biography

Nonny Onyekweli George is a senior associate with experience litigating a broad range of complex civil rights, commercial, securities, and antitrust disputes at the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts. Nonny is experienced in developing case strategy, managing discovery, drafting briefs and motions, taking and defending depositions, working with experts, and preparing witnesses to testify at trial.

Prior to joining Mitchell Sandler, Nonny was a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice, where she investigated alleged violations and litigated claims under the ADA. Additionally, she monitored compliance of settlement agreements and consent decrees. She was a member of the trial team in United States v. Florida, a bench trial finding the State of Florida violated the rights of children with complex medical needs under Title II of the ADA. She also served on the Civil Rights Division’s Artificial Intelligence Working Group. Before joining the Department of Justice, she was a complex litigation and trials associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, where she represented public and private companies, as well as financial institutions,  in a variety of disputes, including corporate litigation, class actions, employment litigation, and federal and state appeals. She was a member of the case team in Mackmin v. Visa Inc., a seminal antitrust class action alleging a conspiracy concerning ATM access fees.

Over her career, Nonny has been dedicated to civil rights and pro bono work. She previously served as the Director of Criminal Justice at the National Urban League and as an immigration attorney at the Legal Aid Society of New York. Immediately following law school, she was a Legal Fellow with the Policing Project and a member of the Cleveland Police Federal Monitoring Team, where she oversaw the implementation of the consent decree between the City of Cleveland and the U.S. Department of Justice.
